MPA Demands OpenAI Address Copyright Violations in Sora 2 AI Video Tool
The Motion Picture Association has issued a stern warning to OpenAI regarding its newly launched Sora 2 video generation model. Social media platforms have seen an influx of AI-generated clips featuring copyrighted characters and brands since the tool's release last week.
MPA CEO Charles Rivkin insists OpenAI must take immediate action to prevent unauthorized use of intellectual property. The association maintains that existing copyright laws clearly protect creators in these cases, placing the onus squarely on the AI developer.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded by outlining planned changes to the platform's content control systems. The company will transition from an opt-out to an opt-in framework for copyrighted material, though Altman acknowledged the system may not catch every potential infringement during the transition period.
